What we believe

The gospel is the centre.

HLEC is a gospel-centred church holding to the historic Christian faith as revealed in the Bible. Here is a summary of what we believe and teach.

The Scriptures

We believe the Bible — both Old and New Testaments — is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. It is fully sufficient for what we believe and how we live.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 · 2 Peter 1:20–21

God

There is one true and living God, eternally existing in three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — equal in power and glory.

Deuteronomy 6:4 · Matthew 28:19 · 2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ

Jesus is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is coming again.

John 1:1–14 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–8 · Philippians 2:5–11

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, regenerates and indwells every believer, and empowers the church to live and proclaim the gospel.

John 16:7–11 · Romans 8:9–17 · Acts 1:8

Humanity & Sin

All people are made in the image of God, yet all have sinned and fall short of His glory. Apart from Christ, we are without hope.

Genesis 1:26–27 · Romans 3:23 · Ephesians 2:1–3

Salvation

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone — not by works, so that no one may boast. All who trust in Jesus are forgiven, adopted, and given eternal life.

Ephesians 2:8–10 · Romans 10:9–10 · John 3:16

The Church

The church is the body of Christ — a family of believers gathered to worship, grow, love one another, and make disciples of all nations.

Matthew 28:18–20 · Acts 2:42–47 · Ephesians 4:11–16

The Return of Christ

Jesus will return personally and visibly to judge the living and the dead and to bring His people into the new creation forever.

1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 · Revelation 21:1–5
